In Russia, for the first time, more white wine was sold than red

The share of white wine sales by the end of summer 2023 for the first time exceeded 50% in physical terms of the total sales of still wines, a survey of large importers and distributors conducted by Vedomosti showed. Thus, according to a representative of the SimpleWine wine chain, in June–August this figure was 57% (for comparison: in the summer of 2019 it was at 48%). A similar trend is being observed in Ladoga. This company’s share of white wine sales at the end of the summer was 55% (in the same period in 2019 – 41%). They did not provide absolute numbers and data on red wine.
Traditionally, Russians preferred to buy red wine, and at the end of 2022 it remained the leader in sales in this segment of alcoholic beverages with a share of 48%, says Vadim Drobiz, director of the Center for Research of Federal and Regional Alcohol Markets. According to him, the share of white wine was 42%, the remaining 10% was rose.
