A Qatari investor is conducting an assessment of the Kazakh bank Bereke (a former subsidiary of Sberbank) for the possible purchase of a credit institution. This was announced by the Chairman of the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market of the Republic Madina Abylkasymova.
According to her, a circle of potential investors is now being determined for the development of various assets in Kazakhstan, but the sale of the bank is the most worked out deal among them.
“The due diligence procedure is currently being carried out jointly with Qatari investors. Now only an assessment of this bank is being carried out by the Qatari investor, based on the results of which they will determine the price,” she clarified (quote via Interfax).
After the start of the special operation in 2022. Sberbank fell under US blocking sanctions. In September last year, the Kazakh subsidiary of the bank was bought by the national holding Baiterek. After this, the structure was renamed Bereke Bank. In March, the US Treasury announced on the exclusion of a Kazakh bank from the sanctions lists.
