In Chechnya, Sokurov’s words about the culture of the Caucasus were called nonsense

Honored Art Worker of the Chechen Republic Khava Akhmadova suggested to apologize to director Alexander Sokurov, who had previously stated that there is no interest in cinema and culture in the Caucasus in general.
Akhmadova stressed that he had visited the region only a couple of times and could not judge him.
“I’m sorry that at this age, when wisdom should increase, a person can afford such a statement,” she stated.
In her opinion, everything good and talented that Sokurov did loses its value after such statements.
Formerly director in his TG channel wrote that no one in the Caucasus is, by definition, interested in culture and art. In his opinion, there was a failure in the joint cultural development.
“Religious and political Islamization is the inevitable future of this region. Well, if the peoples have made such a choice, this is their right,” Sokurov emphasized.
