The authorities considered that the canceled production of the Bratsk Drama Theater based on the play by Hugo Betti “is not for this audience”

The Bratsk Drama Theater removed from the repertoire the play “Goat Island”, which received an anonymous complaint. Information about the replacement of performances on April 7 and 8 is posted on the theater’s social networks.

As the regional media write, the other day a record appeared on the local Telegram channel from a woman who claimed that she had been to the performance and was outraged by what she saw. According to the publications, an anonymous complainer told the channel’s readers that “group sex with elements of incest, naked body and even hints of bestiality reign on the stage.” The applicant also claimed that one spectator in the hall had left his seat early when he saw the naked actress, and the other did not clap to the artists. What is happening on stage, the anonymous author of the post described as “debauchery.”

In a number of media there were reports citing sources, according to which the order to remove the performance from the repertoire allegedly came to the theater from the city authorities. The officials themselves did not confirm this, while Mayor Sergei Serebrennikov made it clear that he did not consider the production worthy of showings.

“Art at all times, even in the most difficult times, should unite society,” the mayor wrote on the social network and cited online theater screenings during the pandemic as an example. So, he recalled that the Drama Theater “had prepared a wonderful project “Poems of Victory” by May 9.”

The mayor dismissed allegations that a scandal erupted in the city because of the new performance – according to him, there are no discords among the townspeople, “just opinions are divided.”

“If an artistic design is divisive in society,” the official continued, “perhaps the play is not for this audience, perhaps at the wrong time?”

Mayor Serebrennikov summed up his post with assurances that he loves this theater and supports its financing from the city budget, and also wished the troupe further creative success.

““Everything has its time”, “Do no harm” – these wise expressions that have come to us from time immemorial are relevant now more than ever,” the head of the city concluded.

Currently, the administration of the theater in social networks receives questions from the audience and comments: “Return the goat island. We really wanted to get to it with my friends”, “Please return the performance. Marked * especially impressionable do not watch.” One person asked if the performance would be shown at all in the future. “We can not answer this question …” – answered the user on behalf of the theater.
