Prices for taxi services in some regions of Russia have increased by 44%, said Vladimir Lugovenko, deputy director of the department of state policy in the field of automobile and urban passenger transport of the Ministry of Transport. According to him, the national average increase in taxi prices was 5%.

Mr. Lugovenko raised this topic at the TAXI-2023 forum in Sochi. He said that price increases were noted in half of the Russian regions. In 45% of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, prices remained unchanged, in 5% they decreased. He believes that the main reason for the increase in prices is the insufficient preparation of regions for the implementation of taxi lawwhich came into force on September 1.

“This means that there was no control over taxis in these regions. Also, the reasons for the negative dynamics are the artificial excitement associated with the new law, the increase in the cost of consumables and sanctions pressure,” said Vladimir Lugovenko (quoted from RBC).

According to the Check Index, from September 1 to September 7, the average check for a taxi in Russia was 451 rubles. This is 6% higher than the same period in 2022 and 5% higher than the July level. In Moscow, the average cost of a taxi increased by 14%, to 785 rubles.

The law “On the organization of transportation of passengers and luggage by passenger taxis” was signed by the president at the end of 2022. On the one hand, the law makes entering the market easier: now, in order to officially become a taxi driver, it is enough to have self-employed status. At the same time, the requirements for the professional skills of taxi drivers are increasing, and control over them is being strengthened.
