In 2022, Russians most often traveled abroad to neighboring countries

In 2022, Russians most often traveled to Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, reported RBC in “Tutu.ru”. Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates and Georgia were also among the most popular destinations, the service noted. Armenia has become the most popular travel country for OneTwoTrip clients. Aviasales reported that Turkey was the most popular foreign destination this year.

According to these data, Tajikistan accounted for the largest share of Russians traveling abroad in 2022 (17.22%). Last year, this figure was 4.89%. The average check for a round-trip ticket increased by 11% and amounted to 27,611 rubles this year. At the same time, the average bill fell for round-trip tickets to Kazakhstan (by 27% to RUB 31,063), Belarus (by 25% to RUB 12,699) and Uzbekistan (by 11% to RUB 28,668).

The majority of Russians still travel on domestic flights (86% of all passengers in 2022, 92.6% in 2021). The number of travelers in the near abroad this year amounted to 11.4% of their total number, in the far abroad – 2%, in the European direction – 0.5%.

According to the OneTwoTrip service, the demand for flights to Tajikistan has more than quadrupled (the share of orders in 2021 was 2.9%), and to Kazakhstan — five times (1.1%). The company told RBC that the most popular foreign destinations were Armenia (with a share of 18.4%), Turkey (14.6%) and Tajikistan (11.9%). They are followed by Kyrgyzstan (10.9%), Uzbekistan (6.7%), Kazakhstan (5.8%), Azerbaijan (4.7%), Belarus (3.9%), UAE (3.6%) and Thailand (2.0%).

The service recorded a sharp increase in demand for air tickets to certain countries – Singapore (20 times), Japan (17 times), Thailand (14 times), Malaysia (13 times) and Indonesia (12 times).

According to the Kupibilet website, Russians most often chose Turkey (with a share of 23%), Armenia (15%), Uzbekistan (8%), Kyrgyzstan (8%), Azerbaijan (7%) as foreign destinations in 2022, Tajikistan (6%), Kazakhstan (5%), Belarus (4%), UAE (4%) and Israel (2%). The service called Moscow (30%), St. Petersburg (14%) and Sochi (9%) leaders in domestic directions.

Aviasales considered that the most popular foreign destination this year was Turkey (19%), as well as the UAE (6%), Thailand (3%), Georgia (3%) and Israel (3%).

Earlier, participants in the tourism market told Kommersant that the demand for long trips, in particular, to Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, has doubled this year, exceeding the pre-pandemic level. “Wintering” in distant countries of Russians stimulates, in particular, the spread of remote work.
