How the EU oil embargo works

At the beginning of June 2022, the EU, as part of the sixth sanctions package, imposed an embargo on the supply of Russian oil and oil products by sea. The ban on the supply of crude oil will come into force in December 2022, on the supply of petroleum products – in February 2023. Exceptions were made only for Russian oil supplied to the EU via the Druzhba pipeline (it accounts for about 10% of supplies). At the same time, Germany and Poland announced their refusal from any form of oil supplies from Russia.
