The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, went to Kyiv. He announced the need to create a security zone around the Zaporozhye NPP. The press service of the IAEA said that the station staff plan to restart one of its six reactors, which are in a state of cold shutdown.

“We are going to Kyiv for important meetings. The need to create a nuclear safety and protection zone around the Zaporozhye NPP is now more relevant than ever,” Mr. Grossi wrote on his Twitter.

AT message The IAEA website says that senior NPP personnel informed the IAEA experts present at the station about preparations for restarting the fifth power unit at a reduced capacity to produce steam and heat for the needs of the station. Preparations for the restart will take some time, NPP workers noted.

The last operating reactor of the Zaporozhye NPP was shut down on 11 September. It has been supplying the station with electricity for cooling and other important safety functions since 7 September. On that day, all external high-voltage power sources were switched off at the station. The IAEA mission headed by Mr. Grossi visited the Zaporozhye NPP in early September, declaring their intention to establish their permanent representation there.
