Company managers began to personally select candidates for vacancies. Personnel officers told Kommersant that now directors and shareholders come for interviews, and they select not only top managers, but also middle managers and even line personnel. This, according to experts, may indicate that owners, in conditions of shortages in the labor market, are not entirely confident in the effectiveness of their HR services.

Kommersant FM contacted top managers of companies and found out how often they take part in the selection of candidates and how they explain their personal presence.

General Director of Smart Engines Vladimir Arlazarov: “I participate in the selection of candidates related to PR, marketing, sales, and sometimes in technical interviews. We have a small company, and it is very important to select employees who will fit into it. Therefore, I strive to look at the employee and evaluate not only his hard skills, but also his soft ones. The assessment of technical specialists is carried out by our line managers, the developers themselves, who assess the level of professionalism quite well. And PR, marketing and sales are my main areas of responsibility.”

Founder of the clothing brand Zhanna&Anna Zhanna Kazanskaya: “My projects are directly related to working with people, so this filter is very important for me. I always select employees myself, even for linear positions. There are pre-interviews with my managers, after passing the first two stages, at the third, I will definitely interview myself. And in the person we carefully choose, we invest not only financial, but also time resources. I really love the concept of nurturing employees; people work with me for a long time, and in this sense, of course, the budget is saved.”

Executive Director of Transasia Logistics Kirill Latinsky: “Yes, of course, I personally participate and interview both middle managers and, of course, top managers. In fact, the market has a rather serious problem with personnel and very strong competition. The question is that the shortage of personnel in the market has provoked an increase in wages. And when the salary level exceeds the budget, we want to make sure that the employee meets the parameters that we put forward in the vacancy. As a rule, the most difficult position is the sales department, since employees must simultaneously be able to sell and have the necessary competencies in the field of international transportation.”

Experts note that such careful selection also has its downsides. It takes longer, and competitors have time to intercept promising candidates. At the same time, another trend is gaining momentum – the so-called blind hiring. When companies are ready to quickly hire an employee who meets the basic criteria and further train him to meet the needs of the vacancy already in the workplace.
