“I would like there to be real dialogue writers in France”

Julia (Claire Keim – Unfaithful), a brave and secretive police captain. TV MAGAZINE. – What attracted you to this character?

Claire Keim. – I didn’t want to play a cop at all, I hate news items, I don’t like stories of dead or kidnapped children. But I couldn’t put it down after reading the script. This girl fascinates me. She is so secretive. There is an ocean of possible things to project into her, it’s gold. She makes me stronger: even if she is terribly destroyed, she is stronger than me. And she obliges me.

That’s to say ?

You can see right away what I feel. I would like to be able to contain but it overflows! Julia, it’s the opposite, she’s in detention, she’s a character of mad dignity. She imposes on me a reserve that I do not have naturally. She is beautiful, mysterious, elusive. I like to clown on the set, there it was not possible. I had to have some form of armor, something perpetually uncomfortable.

You prefer characters far from you ?

I don’t know how it works, it goes both ways. But I wanted to approach a person with this kind of quality and through. I was interested in testing them.

Did you have the opportunity to improvise?

It was impossible to improvise so much information to pass on! But we put the dialogues in our mouths a little, in order to fart the texts so as not to express ourselves all in the same way. I would like there to be real dialogue writers in France like in the United States. We could work better on the dialogues in the series. I’m sometimes dry, I don’t have the right word to go more into the contradictory side of a scene. I would like us to take more risks. Viewers now see billions of series and are familiar with this grammar. You have to trust them, no need to cut corners. Let’s be radical!

Are you living through an exciting period in French fiction?

Yes, the series have not been the same since The Killing, True detective, Ozark Where Mare of Eastown . I lose years of life watching series. I do not sleep ! The turning point in France dates from Legends Office . When I saw the first season, I thought anything was possible. We must stop thinking we are tiny because French. The adaptations also forced the movement.

What about the relationship with Novak?

What I find very sexy about these characters is that you don’t know if they’re going to fight or make love. It’s a bit the same look every time. This guy is tattooed deep inside his guts by this girl. She would like to give everything so that he disappears forever. His presence is a curse. Their relationship is the mostwowin this series. It kept me in suspense. Why is it so difficult? Why does she stop breathing when he walks into the room?

How was the shooting of the scene with the wolf?

It was my dream to meet a wolf. With the tragic side that it happens on a set where he has nothing to do. His look inspired me a lot, he served me. I was moved and my heart ached. Everything was mixed up. This scene totally freaked me out. It didn’t go as I imagined, but it’s not my film, it’s the director’s. Sometimes it was war. I liked that. It’s stimulating!
