Hyundai Motor and Kia took second place in the US in sales of electric vehicles – Kommersant

Hyundai Motor and Kia, part of the South Korean conglomerate Hyundai Motor Group, ranked second in the United States in sales of electric vehicles by the end of 2023. In total, these companies sold 94.3 thousand electric vehicles in the American market last year and thus surpassed General Motors in car sales. The undisputed leader in the American market remains Tesla, which sold almost 655 thousand electric vehicles over the year. According to analysts surveyed by the WSJ, this year South Korean manufacturers are going to introduce new electric vehicle models to the American market using an aggressive pricing policy. However, Hyundai Motor and Kia already offer a wider range of electric vehicles than other manufacturers, including Tesla. They now sell nine models of electric vehicles, occupying 8% of the US market, and their prices start at $32 thousand. Tesla now has five models, and the most affordable of them costs $39 thousand. Hyundai Motor Group has confirmed plans to expand in the American market, where Georgia is coming construction a new plant for the production of electric vehicles and batteries for them, and the renovation of the conglomerate’s existing automobile plant in Alabama is also being completed to launch the production of electric vehicles there.
