Hungary agreed with Gazprom to defer payments for gas

The Hungarian authorities were able to reach an agreement with Gazprom on deferring payments for Russian gas, said Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto after a meeting with Gazprom head Alexei Miller. According to him, gas supplies from Russia will be redirected from the Nord Stream to the Turkish Stream.
“On the basis of a long-term agreement, we bought a smaller amount of gas from Russia along the route through Austria, which, due to problems in the northern gas pipelines, is now only 30% operational. Today we agreed to redirect the initial volume of gas coming to Hungary from the Russian Federation through the northern direction to the southern direction,” said Mr. Sijairto (quoted by Prime).
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry also said that after the explosions on the Nord Stream, which EU officials called sabotage, the Turkish Stream remains the only reliable gas pipeline for Hungary.
On August 31, Hungary and Gazprom signed an agreement on the supply of additional volumes of gas. Under the agreement, Hungary should receive 5.8 million cubic meters. m of gas per day from September 1. Peter Szijjártó said that Hungary imports more than 80% of its gas from Russia. Earlier today, October 12, the Hungarian Foreign Minister declaredthat his country would not support the EU’s decision to impose cap prices on gas from Russia.
