Japanese agency Nikkei reported that the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei Technologies has significantly increased the share of Chinese components in its smartphones. Nikkei conducted a joint study with Fomalhaut Techno Solutions, disassembling the flagship smartphone Huawei Mate 60 Pro to understand how many Chinese components were used in the production of this Chinese phone.
It turned out that the share of Chinese components in this smartphone was 47% – this is 18% higher than in the three-year-old flagship Mate 40 Pro, which contained many components from American, Korean, Japanese and Taiwanese companies. “It was discovered that China made a noticeable technological leap after the US imposed sanctions on Huawei,” the agency notes.
In particular, it is reported that Huawei is now using components for the OLED display from the Chinese company BOE Technology Group, whereas previously there were components from the Korean LG Display. In addition, the touch display for Huawei’s flagship now uses Chinese components – previously components from the American company Synaptics were used there.
It is reported that the share of Japanese components in the Mate 60 Pro was 1%, and in the Mate 40 Pro – 19%. The decrease in the share of Japanese components occurred due to the fact that Huawei changed the supplier of camera modules – from the Japanese Sony to the Korean Samsung. For this reason, the share of Korean components in the Mate 60 Pro increased to 36%, which is 5% more than in the Mate 40 Pro.
