Huawei is collaborating with several Chinese automakers to launch new brands of electric vehicles. The head of Huawei’s automotive division, Richard Yu, announced this on Tuesday, reports CNBC.
Mr. Yu shared information about the prospects for Huawei’s automotive business during the launch ceremony for the Luxeed S7, a new electric car model developed by Huawei together with Chery. According to Yu, the smartphone maker is now collaborating with at least four Chinese automakers. In addition to Chery, these are Changan, with which Huawei is working on the Avatr brand, as well as BAIC Motor and JAC Motor.
Mr. Yu emphasized that Huawei does not produce the cars themselves, but only helps its partners by providing them with the necessary software or individual components. But in some cases, the company takes on the production and design of the car. Just as happened in the case of Huawei’s own car brand, Aito. These cars are manufactured by Seres, but the design and hardware remain with Huawei. The Aito lineup includes the M5 and M7 hybrids, and a fully electric version of the M5 appeared in September.
