Hotel revenue up 32% in Q1

Hotel revenues in January-March reached RUB 136.92 billion, up 32% year-on-year. This is evidenced by the data of Rosstat.

How notes Kommersant, revenue growth was made possible by an increase in facility occupancy by 18.5% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022. The figures also exceeded the pre-pandemic indicator by 17.7% from January to March 2019.

According to the results of the first quarter of 2023, the largest growth was observed in Moscow (by 40% to RUB 22.5 billion), St. Petersburg (by 24% to RUB 7.8 billion) and the Krasnodar Territory (by 24% to 24.8 billion rubles). The newspaper clarifies that, relative to 2019, the income of hotels in St. Petersburg and the Krasnodar Territory increased by 24% and 127%, respectively. At the same time, in Moscow, the results of the first quarter were still lower than in 2019 by 26%.

Bnovo (a cloud-based hotel management system) noted that the number of bookings from hoteliers cooperating with the service for more than two years increased by 15% year-on-year in the first quarter. From January to March 2023, tourists’ spending on accommodation and additional services in hotels increased by an average of 21%. In apartments, the increase was 18%, and in recreation centers – 14%, Bnovo reported. IN MTS Travel recorded a two-fold increase in bookings.

The second factor in the growth in income of the hotel business could be the rise in prices that followed the increase in demand, Kommersant writes. Bnovo noted that the average cost of accommodation in three-star hotels in the first quarter was 4,800 rubles. per night, which is 6.7% more than in 2022. According to Ostrovok.ru, the average cost in Russia as a whole in the quarter amounted to 4,300 rubles. per night (+16%).

In capital hotels, the average cost of living increased by 25% to 3,600 rubles, in St. Petersburg – by 12.5% ​​to 3,600 rubles, in the Krasnodar Territory – by 17.4% to 5,400 rubles. According to Evgenia Tuchkova, Deputy Director of the Strategic Consulting Department at Nikoliers, in Moscow in the first quarter of 2023, the revenue per issue increased by 31% year-on-year, in St. Petersburg – by 34.8%.

Experts interviewed by Kommersant did not rule out further growth in the hotel market. CMWP partner Marina Usenko expects a significant increase in tariffs in Sochi, Karelia, Baikal and Altai. According to Sergey Romashkin, general director of the Dolphin tour operator, domestic tourism will be affected by limited opportunities for short-term foreign trips.
