Hollywood studios meet the requirements of the screenwriters guild – Kommersant

American movie studios, TV companies and streaming services have made an improved offer to the American Screenwriters Union, striker from May 2, which led to the cessation of almost all filming in Hollywood. According to Bloomberg citing its own sources, the Motion Picture and Television Producers Alliance (AMPTP) has met all the key requirements of the Writers Guild of America (WGA).

The union had been negotiating with representatives of the studios for several months before the strike was announced to extend the existing agreement, but the parties could not agree. The main demands of the scriptwriters were an increase in payouts and a ban on replacing people with neural networks like ChatGPT.

According to Bloomberg, AMPTP has agreed to only recognize human screenwriters, not artificial intelligence. Studios are also willing to share with screenwriters data on the number of views of the shows they created, as well as increase fees by more than 20% for their reruns (not on the TV networks and streaming for which the product was originally created).

But the requirement to increase the base salaries of the studio is still not ready to satisfy in full. The writers asked for a 6% salary increase in the first year of the new three-year contract. The studios originally offered a 4% raise and have now upgraded their offer to 5%.

The last meeting of AMPTP and WGA took place on August 11th. The parties will meet again today, August 15, to discuss the Writers Guild’s response.
