Hollywood actors threaten to go on strike over stalled wage talks
The Negotiating Committee of the Screen Actors Guild of the United States and the American Federation of Television and Film Actors (SAG-AFTRA) may announce a strike by Hollywood actors, the union said in a widespread statement. Salary talks with major studios and streaming companies have stalled, potentially sparking a strike.
Hollywood should be a place where every employee – on and off screen – is treated according to the value of their skills and talents, the statement said.
Arrangements with the Film and Television Producers Alliance expired on July 12.
The union committee will meet on Thursday. It is expected that a decision will be made to hold a strike. Broadcasting company ABC, in turn, believes that the strike is able to “disable” the activities of the “dream factory”.
In June, the Screen Actors Guild voted to go on strike if major studios and streaming companies could not negotiate pay increases. 98% were in favor of this form of protest, in total there are 65 thousand members in the guild.
