high-speed railways will reach Donetsk and Lugansk – Kommersant

Russian President Vladimir Putin said during the Railway Congress that high-speed rail lines (HSR) will eventually reach Donetsk and Lugansk, reports press service Kremlin.

“It is planned that high-speed lines will pass through territories where more than 111 million of our citizens live, which is 80% of the country’s population,” the president said about the prospects for railway construction.

Speaking at the congress, Vladimir Putin noted that the railways are successfully coping with the increased load in the southern and southwestern directions, reliably providing military transportation and supplies of raw materials to defense enterprises.

According to him, in 2022, Russian Railways and other domestic carriers quickly rebuilt logistics and thereby contributed to repelling sanctions attacks against Russia.

The President also said that the Moscow central diameters will in the future become the basis for connecting Moscow, the Moscow region, Yaroslavl, Tver, Kaluga, Vladimir and other regions of Central Russia, as well as “brotherly Belarus,” by high-speed routes. In the future, they will reach Donbass, the president assured.

Vladimir Putin said that the coming decade in Russia will be a period of “big construction”, the implementation of large projects, including railway ones. According to him, in the next three to four years the Russian Federation will have to complete the renewal of its fleet of passenger cars.

August 17 President offered to bring the HSR to Lugansk and Donetsk, and also outlined other highways for the future: from Moscow to Adler, from Moscow through Kazan to the Urals, as well as the possible construction of a HSR to Minsk. Construction of a high-speed railway between Moscow and St. Petersburg is currently underway. The end of construction is scheduled for 2028.
