HeadHunter: there are more and more applicants in the IT segment

It has become easier to search for IT specialists, despite the fact that they are still in short supply, Olesya Lavrenova, director of hh.ru South, said during online marathon “Regional Labor Market 2023: Strategies in the Context of Modern Challenges”, organized by Kommersant Publishing House. According to her, over the past few months, the activity of applicants has become higher than the activity of employers, and there are 3.3 resumes per vacancy in this area in Russia.

“Over the past few years, we have noted that the demand for applicants in the IT segment is growing inexorably, salary offers are growing. Last year was the first year in which we did not see an increase in wages offered. The last few months have shown for the first time in a long time an increase in the number of applicants. It has become a little easier for IT companies to search for people, although this does not mean that they see a line at their doorstep. The market is very competitive,” said Ms. Lavrenova.

As before wrote “b”, Russian companies are experiencing a shortage of entry-level IT specialists (junior): the number of open vacancies is twice the number of resumes. According to a study by Skillbox and HeadHunter, during 2022, more than 67,000 vacancies were opened on the market for IT specialists without work experience (junior) and about 310,000 for employees with work experience from one to three years.

According to HeadHunter, the shortage of staff has prompted companies to attract specialists on a temporary basis, as well as to be more loyal to remote work.

After the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, IT specialists began to leave Russia en masse. To stop the outflow of personnel, the government announced the development of measures to support the IT industry, including tax cuts, soft loans, grants and deferment from the army.
