Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) met with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Washington. He thanked the United States for supporting the agency’s efforts to create a security zone around the Zaporozhye NPP.
“I stressed that IAEA safeguards inspectors will be visiting Ukraine this week and thanked the United States for supporting our efforts to establish a nuclear safety and security zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant,” Grossi tweeted.
In early October, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the transfer of the Zaporizhzhya NPP to Russian jurisdiction. After that Mr. Grossi had a meeting with the head of state in St. Petersburg. Following the talks, the head of the IAEA declared, which considers it possible to conclude an agreement to ensure the safety of the plant before the end of the year. Russia admits creation of a security zone around the ZNPP, but not its demilitarization.
