The contract of the head of Sberbank German Gref will be extended for the next four years. This was reported Frank Media citing two sources familiar with the situation. The option of extending the contract is also predicted by bankers simplified by the publication.
A Frank Media source close to the members of the Supervisory Board said that the change of director of Sberbank is not being discussed. According to another interlocutor of the publication, the new strategy of Sberbank will be focused on the development of artificial intelligence technologies. “In this situation, Gref remains,” he added.
German Gref became the head of Sberbank in 2007. His powers were extended in May 2019, when the bank’s shareholders were responsible for his appointment. Later, the option to elect the President of Sberbank was transferred to the Supervisory Board.
In March, German Gref refused to answer the question of whether his powers as president would be extended. “Let’s return to this issue later, while this issue is not yet on the agenda,” he said then.
