Greece and Cyprus lost 80-90% of Russian tourists in 2022

Over the year, the flow of tourists to Greece fell by 83%, to Cyprus – by 91.3%. In general, the countries of the European Eastern Mediterranean lost up to 90% of Russian tourists in 2022. About it informs Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).
According to the Bank of Greece, 31 thousand arrivals of Russians were counted in the country for three quarters of 2022. According to preliminary data, for the whole of 2022, Greece was visited by a maximum of 40 thousand tourists from Russia. This is 83% less than in 2021 and 94.8% less than in 2019. The leaders in tourist flow to Greece in 2022 were the UK (3.8 million), Germany (3.6 million), France (1.5 million).
Annual statistics are available for Cyprus. For the whole of 2022, 45,303 arrivals of Russian citizens were recorded in the republic, which is 91.3% less than in 2021, and 94.2% less than in 2019. In 2022, the UK (1.2 million), Israel (277 thousand) and Germany (192 thousand) became the leaders in arrivals to Cyprus.
The unrecognized Northern Cyprus was visited by 173% more tourists in 2022 (from 102 thousand in 2021 to 281 thousand in 2022). The leaders in foreign tourist flow (excluding Turkey) were Russia (32,442 tourists), Iran (31,450), Germany (27,800) and the UK (24,167).
