Gorky’s granddaughter, actress Daria Peshkova, died

At the age of 97, a person with an amazing destiny, the granddaughter of A.M., passed away. Gorky. She grew up in the family of a great writer and served at the Vakhtangov Theater for more than 70 years. “She rarely had big roles, but her professionalism and respect for the work assigned made her an important participant in preserving the spirit of the Vakhtangov Theater,” according to the theater’s website.
Daria Maksimovna Peshkova was born on October 12, 1927 in Naples (Italy). She graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theater School (course of A.A. Orochko) in 1949. In the same year, she was accepted into the troupe of the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater, with which her entire creative life is connected.
She played fifty roles, creating a whole gallery of characters from different eras and peoples.
In 1963, when R.N. Simonov restored “Princess Turandot”, Daria Maksimovna not only played the role of a tsanni – a servant of the proscenium, but also monitored the work of all the tsannis, understanding how well-coordinated work and an ensemble are important for the performance.
Her last roles were Palageya in the play “People as People” based on M. Gorky’s play “The Zykovs” (directed by V. Ivanov), the boarding house dweller in “The Last Moons” based on the plays of F. Bordon and G. Müller, and the Wanderer in “The Pier” ( staged by Rimas Tuminas).
