In October, global smartphone sales increased by 5% compared to the same period in 2022. Report on this published yesterday, November 22, research company Counterpoint Research. This is the first monthly increase since June 2021 – before that, smartphone sales had declined for 27 months in a row.
According to the company, sales were falling due to component shortages, macroeconomic uncertainty and a longer consumer replacement cycle for smartphones than before. Among the factors contributing to the current growth, Counterpoint Research analysts cite the recovery of sales in developing countries, including Africa and the Middle East, the release in September of the new iPhone 15 and the flagship model Huawei Mate 60 Pro.
“After strong growth in October, we expect the market to also rise in the fourth quarter year-on-year, which will begin a gradual recovery in subsequent quarters,” Counterpoint Research said. According to the company, in October Samsung remains the leader of the global smartphone market with a share of 20%, followed by Apple (16%), Xiaomi (12%), Oppo (10%) and Vivo (8%).
