Glencore announcedthat intends to build, together with the Canadian Li-Cycle Holding, Europe’s largest battery and battery recycling plant.
The companies signed an agreement to consider the possibility of creating a full-fledged hub based on the Glencore main processing plant in Porto Vesma (Sardinia, Italy), which will provide a full cycle of processing batteries to recover metals such as lithium, nickel and cobalt. If the plan is approved, the joint plant of the two companies can be built as early as 2025 and put into operation in 2026-2027. It is assumed that the renovated plant will be able to process 50-70 thousand scrap per year, which will make it the largest in Europe by this indicator.
