Franco-Italian luxury glasses maker Ray-Ban and Oakley, EssilorLuxottica, has been accused of price fixing in the US. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of consumers in federal court in San Francisco last Friday. Bloomberg.
According to the plaintiff, collusion with competitors in the US market, in particular with Frames for America and For Eyes Optical, allowed Luxottica to inflate the prices of its products by 1000%. In addition, EssilorLuxottica’s subsidiary EyeMed has secretly entered into illegal agreements with thousands of eye care providers to “direct millions of consumers to buy the conglomerate’s overpriced glasses.”
In addition to the French-Italian manufacturer, about 20 other companies are mentioned as defendants in the lawsuit. EssilorLuxottica itself has not yet commented on the situation.
