Germany uses Nord Stream pipes to use LNG

German gas transmission operator Gascade plans to build a new pipeline several hundred meters long by the end of this year to receive liquefied natural gas (LNG), follows from press release companies. For further transportation, the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 infrastructure will be used. Liquefied gas is planned to be transported through the Opal, Nel and Eugal gas pipelines. As noted “RIA News”the first two receive gas from Nord Stream, the latter was originally designed to receive gas from Nord Stream 2, which was not launched.
Connecting LNG to the gas network is implemented by Gascade in cooperation with NEL Gastransport GmbH and OPAL Gastransport GmbH & Co. As follows from the message of the German operator, the gas pipeline will connect the floating LNG terminal with a land station near Lubmin. The date of putting the line into operation is not known.
As RIA Novosti was told in the press service of Gascade, the use of Opal, Nel and Eugal as part of the creation of a new line will not limit the possibility of receiving gas from Nord Stream.
June 24 reported about Germany’s plans to nationalize the German section of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. According to Spiegel, the authorities planned to cut the pipes on the underwater section of the gas pipeline and connect them to a floating LNG terminal. Germany, the publication reported, fears the environmental consequences of such a decision and response from Russia.
Former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz declared about the country’s plans to rebuild the gas infrastructure by mid-2023. According to him, this will allow finding an alternative to Russian supplies. Germany plans to build floating LNG terminals, as well as high-speed pipelines for gas imports from the UK. The country’s gas storage facilities, according to the German Ministry of Economy, will be 85% full by September.
