Germany in the first half of the year increased the purchase of fertilizers from Russia to $151 million

According to the results of the first half of 2023, Germany increased the purchase of Russian fertilizers by 3.3 times compared to the average level for the previous five years. In the first six months, the cost of fertilizers purchased by Germany from Russia reached a record $151.3 million, follows from calculations “RIA News” based on data from the German Statistical Service.
From the data provided by the agency, it follows that in the previous five years in the first half of the year, the German side purchased an average of $45.5 million worth of Russian fertilizers. However, in the period from January to June of this year, Germany purchased fertilizers from Russia for $151.3 million. The figure was the highest since at least 2008.
In absolute terms, Germany increased its purchases of Russian fertilizers by 2.8 times compared to the average for the previous five years. In total, according to the results of the first half of the year, Germany imported 361.5 thousand tons of fertilizers.
Thus, Russia has risen from sixth to third place among the largest fertilizer suppliers to Germany, both in absolute terms and in monetary terms. The Russian share in German fertilizer imports increased to 14.6% in monetary terms and to 16.5% in absolute terms. The leader in the supply of fertilizers to Germany in monetary terms was Belgium (387 thousand tons of fertilizers for $216 million), in absolute terms – the Netherlands (475 thousand tons of fertilizers for $190 million).
