Germany delays launch of first floating LNG terminal

The launch of the first floating terminal for the reception of liquefied natural gas (LNG) off the coast of Germany was postponed for several weeks, reports Der Spiegel. It was originally planned to be launched in early December.
The operator of the project, Deutsche Regas, said that the terminal did not have time to obtain the two necessary permits. The project does not have the official approval of the European Commission, as well as permission to operate
“We assume that we will launch the terminal in December, the month ends on the 31st,” a company representative told the publication. He added that all technical precautions have already been taken.
After commissioning, the fuel will be supplied through the terminal to the EUGAL, OPAL and NEL gas pipelines. Now Germany does not have a single LNG terminal and is completely dependent on gas supplies through pipelines. Uniper considers it necessary to process 5,645,745 up to 7.5 billion cubic meters. m of natural gas per year, which is 8% of Germany’s total gas demand.
