Gerhard Richter’s 192 Colours, sold for £18.3m at auction

Gerhard Richter’s painting 192 Colours, 1966, sold at Sotheby’s. Its cost was £18,287,800 ($20.4 million), according to message auction house.
The Sotheby’s website notes that this is Mr. Richter’s first abstract work. The auction house believes that the painting “manifests itself as an exceptionally bold and uncompromising artistic gesture.”
Gerhard Richter is 90 years old. He is a laureate of the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale. As noted by the German media, “192 colors” formed the basis of another famous work by Gerhard Richter – a stained glass window in Cologne Cathedral. It was opened in 2007.
