New tenants will take the place of IKEA in Russian Mega shopping centers in 2024, said Tigran Khachaturov, deputy chairman of Gazprombank. The bank bought 14 Mega shopping centers from Ingka Centers (part of the Ingka group, which owns IKEA) in 2023.

“As for replacing IKEA space, I can say that we have specific proposals from potential partners. There is plenty to choose from. This year we will decide and close this issue,” said Mr. Khachaturov “RIA News”.

In 2023, approximately 300 new stores opened in Mega shopping centers outside IKEA premises. The vacancy rate is said to be at 5%. Gazprombank considers this figure “a very worthy indicator, taking into account the large-scale departure of a number of brands in 2022.”

The Mega press service told RIA Novosti that decisions for each shopping center will be made “based on market and local conditions, taking into account our objectives and the objectives of our partners.”

Local furniture companies began to occupy the space of IKEA, which left the Russian market, outside the Mega shopping complexes in the fall of 2023. Thus, Kaliningrad-based Lazurit intends to develop a new multi-brand hypermarket in the Moscow shopping center Europolis.
