Russia will seek a transition to a 15-year horizon of cooperation in the gas industry with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other countries of Central and Central Asia. This was announced by the head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller.
“If recently our cooperation in the gas industry could be called short-term, now we have set ourselves the task of reaching a 15-year horizon,” said Mr. Miller “Russia 1”.
The head of Gazprom answered a journalist’s question that during the Soviet era, gas came to the Russian Federation from Central Asia, and not vice versa. According to Mr. Miller, one of the reasons is the expansion of the resource base in the Russian Federation, which now ranks first in the world in terms of production. “Secondly, we must understand that the republics of Central Asia are currently developing very dynamically. We understand the growth rate very well,” he added.
The head of Gazprom in early November announced his readiness to increase supplies to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as discussions on new routes, expansion of existing capacities and gasification. Currently, Russian gas supplies to these countries are small, but, according to analysts, by 2030 the potential for exports to the region could grow to 20 billion cubic meters.
