Gazprom filed a claim to prohibit OMV from conducting proceedings in international arbitration

Gazprom (MOEX: GAZP) filed a claim with the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region to prohibit the Austrian OMV Exploration & Production GmbH from continuing proceedings in the International Arbitration Court of the International Chamber of Commerce. The Russian company also demanded that it be awarded compensation in case of failure to comply with the ban, it follows from cards on the court’s website.

Gazprom Sakhalin Holdings is listed as an interested party. The court accepted the claim for consideration. The preliminary hearing will take place on April 16.

In December 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the sale of the share of OMV and the German Wintershall Dea in joint ventures with Gazprom. Austrian company called expropriation decision and said it was considering steps to protect its rights. In February, the head of the Austrian Ministry of Energy, Leonor Gewessler, announced her intention to terminate the agreement between OMV and Gazprom.
