Energy company Gazprom (MOEX: GAZP) filed a claim with the Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region against the Polish Orlen and the Europol Gaz company, which owns the Polish section of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline.

Europol Gaz filed a claim against Gazprom Export with the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce in May 2023. The claims concerned lost profits from the termination of gas transportation via the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline in the amount of 5.357 billion zlotys ($1.2 billion), as well as debt for gas transportation in the amount of 848 million zlotys (about $200 million). Gazprom completely stopped supplies through the pipeline in 2022 due to the Polish side’s refusal to pay for gas in rubles.
In October 2023, the Polish section of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline was transferred under the management of Orlen. The merger was approved by the Polish Competition and Consumer Authority following antitrust proceedings. Under the terms of the deal, as Orlen reported, Europol Gaz, which controls the gas pipeline, will buy out the 48% stake owned by Gazprom.
