Gazprom discussed cooperation in the gas industry with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan

Today, February 9, a working meeting was held between the head of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, and the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, Bolat Akchulakov, and the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov. In January 2023, Gazprom signed bilateral road maps for cooperation in the gas industry with Kazakhstan And Uzbekistan. Road map between Gazprom and Uzbekistan provides gas transit from Russia through the Central Asia-Center gas pipeline passing through the territory of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Tashkent assured that there was no talk of transferring the Uzbek gas transmission system to Gazprom.
January 26, Mr. Mirzamakhmudov informedthat the “road map” signed with “Gazprom”, provides for the completion of the negotiation process on the supply of Russian gas by February 27. Deliveries are planned from March 1, 2023.
November 28, 2022 Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the creation of a “tripartite gas union” between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The Kremlin said that energy supply routes in the region are “extremely relevant” and such an alliance “would be in the interests of all three countries.”
December 8 Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan declaredthat the country plans to import gas on the basis of commercial contracts, for which participation “in some kind of alliance or union” is not required.
