Gazprom and Botas negotiate gas discount for Turkey

Representative of the President of Turkey Ibrahim Kalin spoke about the negotiations between the Turkish state-owned company Botas and Gazprom. They have been discussing for several months granting Turkey a discount on natural gas supplies from Russia, Mr. Kalyn said at a meeting with foreign journalists. What will be the size of the discount, he does not know.

“But I don’t know what the discount will be, whether it will be 25% or more or less,” said a spokesman for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (quoted by TASS). “I don’t know what they managed to agree on, but I know that they still maintain contacts on this topic,” Ibrahim Kalyn commented on the discussion of discounts and deferred payments.

Formerly Bloomberg reportedthat Turkey is asking Russia to defer gas payments until 2024. The fact that Ankara expects to receive a discount and deferral of payments for gas from Gazprom, in an interview with the Financial Times declared finance minister of the country. The Kremlin saw no problems in these requests.

In 2021, Gazprom supplied Turkey with about 27 billion cubic meters. m of gas, which is two-thirds more than in 2020, reports Interfax. Gas consumption in the republic is growing and in 2021 it was supposed to increase to a record 60 billion cubic meters. m.

In January 2022, Gazprom and Botas signed a four-year contract for the supply of gas via Turkish Stream. Also companies cook a project to create a new gas cluster.
