Gas storage operator warns of risks of gas shortages in Germany until 2027

Germany will face severe gas shortages until early 2027 if it fails to build additional fuel infrastructure. This opinion was expressed by the executive director of the German Association of Underground Gas Storage Operators (INES) Sebastian Bleschke.
“The danger of gas shortages at low temperatures remains and will accompany us until the winter of 2026/2027 if additional infrastructure measures are not taken,” said Sebastian Bleshke (quoted from Bloomberg).
INES has previously noted that additional liquefied natural gas terminals and pipeline connections are needed to ensure sufficient gas supplies to Germany. Despite the fact that Germany’s gas storage facilities are currently 90% full, the coming cold winter could jeopardize the country’s energy security. INES analysts believe that if the winter period is accompanied by abnormally low temperatures for Germany, gas storage facilities may be empty by the end of January.
At the end of September 2022, Germany completely refused gas supplies from Russia. Instead of the Russian energy carrier Berlin began export pipeline gas from Norway and the Netherlands, and increased supplies of liquefied natural gas and coal. At the same time, for the transformation of the energy market, according to the estimates of the German Institute for Economic Research, Germany it took attract an additional €100 billion from the budget.
