Latvia again began to receive natural gas from Russia through the gas measuring station (GIS) “Luhamaa”. About it informs TASS with reference to the Latvian operator Conexus Baltic Grid.

“The raw gas comes through the interconnection in Luhamaa,” said company spokesman Dace Baltabola.

It is noted that gas pumping resumed on September 3. From the data on the operator’s website shouldthat on September 3 and 4 Latvia received 3 GWh each (more than 284,000 cubic meters per day). On September 5, deliveries increased to 4 GWh (about 380 thousand cubic meters), and from September 6, 11 GWh (more than 1 million cubic meters) of Russian gas entered the country. On September 9, gas supplies remain the same.

Gazprom” stopped gas supplies to Latvia on July 30 “due to violation of the conditions for gas withdrawal,” the company said at the time. Later pumping resumed from 5 to 11 August.

On April 1, Russia decided to accept payments for gas only in rubles. In May, the Financial and Capital Market Commission (FCMC) of Latvia refused to issue special permits to the main operator of the republic’s gas transmission system, Latvijas Gaze, to pay for gas in rubles. At the same time, the head of the main operator of the Latvian gas transmission system Latvijas gaze, Aigars Kalvitis, confirmed that the country continues to receive Russian gas through an intermediary.

After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine in the EU countries, there were more and more calls to abandon Russian energy sources. Currently, European authorities are looking for alternative sources of fuel.

At the same time, due to sanctions and cuts in Russian gas supplies to the EU, energy prices have risen sharply. In this regard, European countries began to look for solutions to overcome the energy crisis. One of the proposals is to set a price ceiling for gas and oil supplied from Russia.
