“Reality does not exist, reality is you!”

Alexey Fedorchenko is the most productive director of our time. He doesn’t know what downtime is; he works on several projects in parallel, while also managing to produce films for his colleagues. He recently completed the documentary film “Mitrofan Aksenov’s Sausage” and the feature film “New Berlin”.

“Mitrofan Aksenov’s Sausage” was included in the national competition of St. Petersburg’s “Message to Man,” where Fedorchenko first presented the film “The Big Snakes of Ulli-Kale” just a year ago. After that, he went to Colombia to film “Raccoon City”, and now it is not “Raccoon City”, but “New Berlin” that is being presented in the competition of the “Lighthouse” festival in Gelendzhik.

Fedorchenko directed the films “Oatmeal”, “Heavenly Wives of the Meadow Mari”, “Angels of the Revolution”, “Anna’s War”, “The Last Sweet Bulgaria”. He is fluent in the most complex genre of mockumentary (pseudo-documentary cinema) and works in documentary films. He never looks for easy ways.

According to him, reality does not exist either in fiction or in documentaries. “Reality is you,” says Fedorchenko. The hero of his film “New Berlin” was the Russian director, student of the Marina Razbezhkina School of Documentary Film, Viktor Schaufler. He comes to Colombia in the hope of unraveling the mystery of the disappearance of his older sister Bertha. Fedorchenko combined two self-sufficient films in one film – “The Secret of the Five Hundred Missing Virgins” and “Raccoon City”. This hybrid was a continuation of his pseudo-documentary searches begun in “First on the Moon” and “The Big Snakes of Ulli-Kale”.
