FTC intends to seek injunctive relief from Microsoft and Activision deal – Kommersant

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) wants to seek an injunction against the merger of Microsoft and Activision Blizzard, reports CNBC citing own source. The corresponding lawsuit was filed by the regulator on Monday, June 12.
FTC back in December last year challenged deal between Microsoft and Activision, referring the case to its own administrative law judge. His decision will then be considered by the members of the commission and may be appealed by them. If the regulator eventually blocks the deal, Microsoft will be able to challenge the decision in federal court.
The US regulator wants to get the deal banned before the July 18 deadline for closing it. The FTC judge will only start hearing the case in August. In April, the decision to block the deal between the companies accepted Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) UK. However, Microsoft filed an appeal against this decision, its consideration will begin only at the end of July. That is why the FTC decided to seek the ban in court.
“We welcome the opportunity to present our case in federal court,” Microsoft President Brad Smith commented on the FTC’s decision.
