FT spoke about two options for introducing a cap on prices for Russian gas

The European Commission has prepared for the EU countries two options for limiting gas prices from Russia. The newspaper writes about it Financial Times with a link to the document. The first option involves the introduction of a ceiling, or the establishment of a single buyer. The second is the division of the EU countries into red and green zones.
According to the first option, the EU countries need to introduce a maximum price limit for all gas imported from Russia, or appoint a single buyer of Russian gas who will negotiate prices for the energy resource. At the same time, the EU fears that this may increase the risk of force majeure in the contracts of European companies with Gazprom, as well as increase geopolitical tensions.
According to the second option, the EU intends to divide the countries depending on the degree of risk of interruptions in fuel supplies. For countries in the red zone, prices can be limited, while those in the green zone can remain at a sufficient level to facilitate gas supplies to the countries in the red zone. The document notes that it will be problematic to implement this option, since the division of countries into zones will largely depend on coordination between the EU countries.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated about the intention to introduce a price ceiling for gas from Russia on September 2. This measure is already agreed for Russian oil. The record gas price in Europe was recorded in March: then it was $3,892. In August, prices were close to record highs.
