French poultry farmers complained about competition with chicken suppliers from Ukraine

French poultry farmers complained about “unfair competition” from Ukrainian producers. Jean-Michel Schaeffer, chairman of the Interprofessional Association of Chicken Meat Suppliers Anvol, announced this in an interview. Figaro.
In June, the European Commission extended the duty-free import of chicken from Ukraine. This has led to a sharp increase in supply in the EU poultry market. “There was a doubling and even tripling of Ukrainian exports of chicken meat to the countries of the European Union. We are all experiencing the same situation: a surge in the number of Ukrainian chickens destabilizes the market,” said the representative of the association.
In Europe, poultry farming is usually a family business. Ukrainian companies, according to experts, are in a “different weight category.” In this regard, the cost of production in Ukraine is two times lower than in the European Union.
At the end of March this year, four EU countries – Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Bulgaria – introduced a temporary ban on the import of Ukrainian grain. These measures were taken after the protests of local farmers, who said that the import of Ukrainian grain harmed their economy.
