Freddie Mercury’s tight leather shorts sold at auction for £14,500 informs Omega Auctions. According to the description of the lot, the singer performed with Queen at the Birmingham Exhibition Center on December 6, 1980 in these shorts.
Initially, the lot was valued at between £5,000 and £10,000 and was purchased by an unnamed foreign collector. The tailor-made shorts were auctioned off by the Queen Fan Club in Southport in 1993. Lot includes original Letter of Authenticity signed by fan club secretary Jackie Gunn. According to sky newstogether with additional payments, the shorts cost almost £18 thousand.
“Freddie decided to try and shock the audience with his stage outfit for the encore: the shortest, tightest pair of black leather shorts he could find – they didn’t leave much to the imagination, but no one complained…” the fan club wrote in a letter.
this week became known, that at Sothbey’s auction they will sell a collection of 1.5 thousand personal items of Freddie Mercury from his house in Kensington, London. Bidding will begin in August and will close on September 5, the musician’s 77th birthday. The owner of the collection is a close friend of rock musician Mary Austin.
