American director Elinor Coppola has died at the age of 88. Eleanor is the wife of The Godfather director Francis Ford Coppola. She documented the making of some of her husband’s films.

Ms. Coppola died on Friday, April 12, in Rutherford (California, USA), reported Associated Press citing the family’s statement. The cause of death has not been specified.

Elinor met her future husband while working as an assistant art director on his directorial debut, the horror film Madness 13. Mrs. Coppola filmed her husband working on various films. Among other things, she released the documentary “Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse” about the filming of her husband’s film “Apocalypse Now.” According to the Associated Press, this documentary has become one of the most famous works about filmmaking.

All the children of Elinor and Francis Ford Coppola connected their lives with cinema, they all starred in their father’s films. Sofia Coppola directed the Oscar-winning film Lost in Translation, as well as the award-winning Somewhere and Fatal Temptation. Roman Coppola co-wrote the screenplay for Moonrise Kingdom and received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. Gian-Carlo Coppola died at age 22 in a boating accident.
