France refuses to create a joint device with Russia to study Venus

France has refused to work with Russia on an instrument for an orbiter that India plans to send to Venus. This was announced by Oleg Korablev, Deputy Director of the Space Research Institute (IKI) RAS for the ExoMars project support, Head of the Department of Planetary Physics of the IKI RAS.
“Unfortunately, at the initiative of the French Space Agency, they no longer seek to participate in this project, but we can buy everything ourselves,” Mr. Korablev said in a conversation with TASS. The device is designed to study the atmosphere of Venus by spectroscopy. According to plans, some components should be French.
According to Mr. Korablev, now the French parts will be replaced by Russian ones – this issue has already been agreed with Roscosmos. But the terms of their production may be delayed, the scientist noted. This is due to the fact that the Indian corporation has not yet provided IKI RAS with the necessary funding.
In March, the European Space Agency suspended a joint mission with Russia to Mars – ExoMars – because of the “tragic consequences” of the Russian military operation in Ukraine. The ex-general director of Roskosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, claimed that Russia would independently launch a research mission to Mars. Later he informedthat Russia has begun discussions with the agency about a possible resumption of the mission.
