Due to a 24-hour security strike at four German airports, 351 flights will be canceled on March 13, trade union Verdi announced. The airport association ADV condemned this action, which will affect about 100,000 passengers.
“Longer waiting times and canceled flights will have to be expected,” said the union, which is pushing for better pay and working conditions (AFP quote).
The expected flight cancellations will take place at the airports of Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg and Hannover, affecting about 100,000 passengers, ADV said. The head of the ADV, Ralph Beisel, called the move, which is taking place as airports struggle to recover from the effects of the pandemic, an “abuse.”
“Working 24/7, seven days a week, has a negative impact on family life…” the union said meanwhile. The Verdi strike will be the third this year as the union seeks higher pay for night shifts and weekend work.
