Former Mothercare store chain changed its name to Motherbear

The former chain of stores Mothercare, which left Russia, changed its name to Motherbear, informs TASS. The agency’s correspondent was convinced of this by visiting one of the shopping centers in Moscow.
The renaming of the network was also confirmed by the store employees. They clarified that now all points of the network are open in Russia, except for some stores that have stopped working due to unprofitability. In total, there are more than 70 company stores in the country.
According to TASS, the network’s website also operates under the name Motherbear. Earlier today on the VKontakte page, the brand published logo with a new name.
The Russian business of Mothercare was run by the Kuwaiti Alshaya Group, it owned the master franchise of the British children’s goods brand in Russia. However, in the summer of 2022, the company decided sell assets in Russia. In September, it became known that Jamilko could claim to acquire a women’s clothing store.
Already in November “Jamilko” filed a petition to the Federal Antimonopoly Service for the acquisition of Mothercare’s Russian assets. FAS agreed deal at the end of the same month. At the beginning of December the company filed an application for registration of the Motherbear brand. It was assumed that this would become the new name of the network.
