In Alma-Ata, fast-food restaurants that previously worked under the McDonald’s brand that left Kazakhstan have resumed work. This was reported in the press service of the management company Food Solutions KZ LLP, transmits Interfax.

It is clarified that restaurants will open gradually, now five outlets are open in Alma-Ata. “The company will soon provide full information on the updated menu, the schedule for the opening of other restaurants and the new name,” the company said. So far, restaurants have been operating under the banner “We are open,” Interfax writes, citing a video on the network.

About what McDonald’s accepted the decision to curtail business in Kazakhstan “due to supply constraints” became known on 5 January. According to Bloomberg, one of the reasons became inability to buy meat in Russia. It also proved unprofitable to purchase it from local or European suppliers due to high prices and transportation costs, which would have led to business at a loss.

McDonald’s has closed its restaurants in Russia since March 14, 2022, and on May 16, 2022, the company announced its withdrawal from the Russian market. In mid-May, the fast food chain announced the sale of 718 restaurants in Russia to local licensee Alexander Govor. The company reserved the option to buy the business back within 15 years. On June 12, 2022, the first 15 restaurants of the former McDonald’s reopened in Russia under the Vkusno — i Tochka brand.
