Former head of the Omsk region Alexander Burkov got a job at Uralvagonzavod

Former governor of the Omsk region Alexander Burkov began working at Uralvagonzavod (UVZ, part of the Rostec state corporation), the company told Kommersant. The concern did not disclose Mr. Burkov’s position, but clarified that the ex-governor occupied “one of the leading positions.”
The Uralvagonzavod concern is Russia’s largest developer and manufacturer of armored weapons and equipment, as well as freight rolling stock. The main enterprise is located in Nizhny Tagil (Sverdlovsk region). Unites more than 40 enterprises, design bureaus, research institutes in Russia and abroad. Develops and produces tanks, carriages, armored vehicles, metal-cutting tools and non-standardized equipment.
Alexander Burkov was born in Kushva (Sverdlovsk region). He was elected as a deputy of the Sverdlovsk Regional Duma, was a member of the government of the Sverdlovsk region and headed the council of the “May” movement. In 1999, Mr. Burkov participated in the elections for the governor of the Sverdlovsk region, in which in the second round he lost to the current head of the region, Eduard Rossel (63.09% of the votes), gaining 28.26%.
Since 2007, Alexander Burkov was elected to the State Duma of the 5th, 6th and 7th convocations. In 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed him acting governor of the Omsk region. In 2018, in the September elections, Mr. Burkov won 82.56% of the votes and headed the region. In 2023, Alexander Burkov left the post of governor of his own free will, citing a move to a new job where he could bring “maximum benefit to the Fatherland and the state.”
During his governorship, Mr. Burkov showed interest in Omsktransmash (part of the UVZ concern). In 2022, during a visit to a tank enterprise, he stated that in 2021 Omsktransmash became the largest in terms of revenue among all Omsk production facilities of the military-industrial complex. Alexander Burkov proposed to the director of the enterprise, Vasily Kovalev, to intensify joint work on training personnel for the plant in educational institutions of the Omsk region.
