Flowers may rise in price by 15–20% by March 8 – Kommersant

A bouquet of flowers by March 8 will rise in price by 15–20% on average than in 2023. This is the forecast of analysts from “Chek Index”, the operator of fiscal data “OFD Platform”, leads RBC. The main reasons for the rise in prices for flowers: rising wholesale prices, higher logistics costs and delays in flower deliveries at the border. In February, Russians most often bought roses, chrysanthemums and carnations.
In the first half of February this year, Russians bought a bouquet of flowers in online and non-chain retail for 2,632 rubles, or 18% more than in the same period in 2023. In online stores, the average bill for a bouquet was 3,336 rubles. (+20% compared to last year).
On the eve of the holidays, flowers become more expensive due to increased demand. For example, in March flowers are bought 20–25 times more often than in February, according to the Check Index data from 2017. For the period from March 1 to March 7, 2023, a bouquet of flowers increased in price by an average of 25% year-on-year, to RUB 2,803. If such dynamics continue, this year a bouquet of flowers will cost 3.2–3.4 thousand rubles, or 15–20% more than last year.
In February 2024, Russians bought roses the most. On average, one bouquet of roses cost 1,289 rubles, or 15% higher than last year. The number of purchases was 13% higher than in February 2023. In second place in popularity in February were chrysanthemums (1,195 rubles, or +13%, the number of purchases increased by 4%) and carnations (956 rubles, +11%, the number of purchases increased by 4%).
